Who We Are
In 2020 we began a network of residents dedicated to celebrating, supporting and advocating for Gainesville’s neighborhoods. In 2022, with the addition of new voices, we formed Gainesville Neighborhood Voices, Inc.
Our Mission
To celebrate and to protect the neighborhoods cherished by residents citywide.
Our Priorities
To celebrate the beautiful neighborhoods that are at the heart of our diverse, welcoming and livable city.
To protect these neighborhoods when threatened by land use changes, major developments or other threats to their integrity.
To protect and, when possible, add to the greenspace in our neighborhoods.
To support the racial and ethnic diversity of the residents of our neighborhoods and city.
Goals
To help residents remain informed on issues of public importance to their neighborhoods.
To provide a place for residents to meet, share information and find common cause on concerns about threats to neighborhoods.
To support single-family zoning and other measures that prioritize the interests of neighborhoods and residents over those of developers, apartment building owners and landlords.
To work to change measures threatening neighborhoods citywide, such as the City of Gainesville’s fall 2020 action allowing two Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on rented and owner-owned homes.
To aid in defense of neighborhoods that come under special threat throughout the city, including …
Historically Black neighborhoods threatened by land use changes and short-term and student rentals
Neighborhoods near UF facing increased threats from land use changes and student and short-term rentals
Neighborhoods threatened by land use changes and major developments citywide
To work on behalf of proven measures to increase affordable housing, such as community land trusts.
