carol estates
Carol Estates was one of the earliest suburban residential developments annexed into the City. Located on land that was probably used for growing pine trees and harvesting turpentine, the neighborhood’s original plat was filed in 1955. The neighborhood was designed and built as a whole and was intended to be a community with services including commercial area and new schools (Metcalf Elementary and Howard Bishop Junior High). Original owners were offered a choice of residential types and plans that included linear ranch homes (the most prevalent) and a mid-century modern house option. The developer, Hugh Edwards, Inc. would become one of the leading builders in North Central Florida. Carol was one of Hugh Edwards’ daughters.
Carol Estates is comprised of the original Carol Estates plat with numerous additions including Carol Estates North, Carol Estates South and Carol Estates Terrace. Their southern boundary is NE 16th Avenue, the western boundary is NE 9th Street, the northern boundary is NE 31st Avenue and the eastern boundary includes NE 15th Street, NE 28th Avenue and NE 19th Street.
