Duckpond
The Duckpond is one of Gainesville’s oldest neighborhoods forming part of Gainesville’s Northeast Historic District. The original section was platted in 1854 and its buildings reflect architectural styles prevalent in Florida from the 1880s through the 1950s. Duckpond’s quiet, narrow streets take you back a century.
One of Duckpond’s most important sites is the Thomas Center, which began as a private home in 1910, transitioned to serve as a hotel and now functions as City office space and a community gathering place for art exhibits, live performance, tours of its historic buildings and grounds, and a beautiful public garden.
Sweetwater Branch, a spring fed creek that originates northwest of the Neighborhood, flows through it. It was dammed and widened to form a pond that gives the neighborhood its focus and its name.
