GAINEsWOOD
Gaineswood is a vertical neighborhood of two apartment towers, located off of NW 23rd Avenue, west of 13thStreet. It adjoins the linear City-owned Ring Park, named after University of Florida professor and philanthropist Alfred Ring and his wife Emily.
Ring Park traces the segment of Hogtown Creek that runs between NW 23rd Avenue and NW 16th Avenue. This includes the Glen Springs tributary that enters the creek segment near its north end. Wooded trails in the park are easily accessible from Gaineswood and are a popular form of passive recreation.
Set on more than six forested acres, Alfred Ring developed the Gaineswood Condominiums in the early 1970s. The project was designed by Miami-based Russell Melton Associates Architects. It is an excellent local example of mid-century modern architecture.
Each tower is six stories tall, organized around a central atrium with tropical planting and koi ponds. External corridors, overlooking the planted internal gardens, connect individual apartments, external stairs, and elevators. Each apartment has a private balcony, overlooking a grove of mature trees.
In addition to individual apartments, parking, and leasable garages, Gaineswood includes a club house, swimming pool, and tennis court.
