sugarfoot
Construction of homes in the Sugarfoot neighborhood began in the early 1950s and it was annexed into the City of Gainesville in 1961. The Sugarfoot Community Improvement Association (SCIA) is the oldest neighborhood association in Gainesville (sugarfoot.org). The SCIA organizes the yearly neighborhood picnic at the end of October and sponsors other events during the year. Its central feature is Clear Lake, around which handsome homes were built to take advantage of the great views of the natural setting. West of Clear Lake is the Sugarfoot Prairie Conservation Area and Clear Lake Nature Park. To its south is Green Acres Park and to its north is the John Mahon Nature Park. The park serves as a memorial to Dr. John Mahon, one of the neighborhoods first residents, who worked tirelessly to preserve natural areas in and around Gainesville.
